Working professionally since 1997. Self-taught, he learnt photography by working in the Photography Department of « BC éditions », then « Textuel », and working on four magazines. He has worked as a professional picture editor, photographer assistant and reporter.
Deciding to settle in his favourite playground, Asia, he set up shop in Hanoi in 2002. Since then his work has explored such diverse fields as contemporary architecture and urban development, interior decoration and design, as well as social topics such as consumerism and the disabled. His work has taken him throughout Vietnam, China, Laos, Cambodia and North Korea.
François Carlet-Soulages aims to capture the raw and simple in the world and through the subtleties of aesthetic choice his work combines poetry with reality giving his personal work and reports an authentic and meaningful context.
